Boy Scout meeting tonight

Only two Boy Scout meetings left for the summer!  Please bring your boy scout handbook tonight and next week's meeting so that we can sign off recent activities and discuss some items in the book. Be prepared to make payments on summer camp, or be active in lawn mowing so that you are earning money for your account.  If you took popcorn home to sell, please bring in the money from that ASAP. Thank you!  See you tonight!

Service Hours Opportunity tonight!

Do you want to rank up in scouting? Looking for some service time?  I have a request to assist in picking up rocks for a very special person. The rocks will fit in your hand, so they are not too big or too heavy.  If you would like to help out and earn some service time tonight or possibly Thursday please comment here.  It's a local place and I will give you details personally. Many hands will get the job done sooner. Give me a call at 989-619-6001 if you are interested.  Scoutmaster Julia Bushong

Swim Check Wednesday 3pm at Sportsplex. Bring $3.50, swimsuit and towel.

Reminder!
There will be no 7pm meeting Wednesday.  Instead, this year to prepare for camp we are going to do our Swim Checks at the Sportsplex on May 20, directly after school 3:00 pm (come as soon as you can). This will save us a lot of time waiting in line when we get to camp. The Fee is $3.50, bring swimsuit and towel. We will serve pizza at 5:00 pm. We want all the scouts in Troop 1 to take this swim test.  We camp right next to the river, and almost everyone wants to swim during that week of camp. Here are the requirements for camp:

No Swimmer: **Scout did not complete the swim check: If anyone can't pass the Beginners test or does not want to take any Swim test they are considered a No Swimmer and have their own little area to cool off in at the waterfront that is only waist deep and they may ride as a passenger in a boat (they may not paddle) so long as their buddy is an adult who is a Swimmer.

Beginner Swimmer: Demonstrate your ability to jump feet first into water over your head in depth, level off and swim 25 feet (any stroke) on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming, then return to your starting place. (8B Second Class)

BSA Swimmer: Successfully complete the BSA swimmer test. Jump feetfirst into water over your head in depth, swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy, resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating 5-10 seconds. (First Class 9b)

Even if your scout isn't going to camp, I would encourage attending. He can still take the test and it will fulfill 1 requirement for 2nd class, and 1 requirement for First Class. Plus it's a good way to have fun with the other scouts in any free time they have in the pool!

We will be helping a Forester by planting shrubs and plants to stop erosion.  So if possible bring a rake or shovel labeled with your name if possible.
Wayne recommends if you have these items:  polarized sun glasses, GPS, binoculars, journal, and pen.

We will be meeting at the Wal-Mart parking lot at 5PM Friday May 15th.  You will see the Troop trailer over in the parking lot towards the Garden Center.  Eric, Nick, and Frankie will be meeting at 4 to do the shopping. If your son needs a shop for a camp out requirement please let them know and meet them at 4.  We will be leaving for the camp out at 5:30PM.  If your Scout need to take medicine during the trip please have it in a baggie with directions and give to Tabitha!  We will have your Scout call you when we get closer to Gaylord on our way back home on Sunday!

If your scout is new, make sure that they bring a completed health form, Part A&B.
We will need a fully completed Healthform Parts ABC for summer camp.

Do not leave your scout until you have signed the permission slip for the camporee so that he can participate. Make sure that Tabitha has your phone number in case of emergency. See attached and we will have some available to sign before you leave.

If your scout is a new scout, he is not allowed to bring a pocket knife until he has completed the Toten Chit.  Toten Chit training will not be available at this campout, but he can get that training at summer camp.

Committee Meeting is Sunday, May 3, 6pm for scouts in leadership positions

Hello Everyone,

Due to the voting in Bagley Hall we will have our monthly committee meeting at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 611 West North Street (By St. Mary Cathedral).  For those that are new, the Committee Meeting is Sunday, May 3,  6pm for scouts in leadership positions (SPL, Asst SPL, Patrol Leaders, Junior Asst. Scoutmaster), 7pm leaders, committee members/parents.

Ken Arndt is our Committee Chair and he will lead the meeting.  People in leadership positions are expected to attend, Secretary, Treasurer, Popcorn Chair, Mowing Chairs, Lock-in Chairs, etc, and it is hoped that parents will attend as well.  The Committee is run by the parents, who are all invested in the experience that their son will have in scouting.  We value and need everyone’s opinion.  Please consider coming.  This meeting is normally held the first Sunday of every month.  We generally change it to the second Sunday if it’s Spring Break, or Super Bowl Sunday etc.

This month we will discuss regular business, Mowing, Summer camp, wrapping up popcorn sales, upcoming camporee on May 15,16,& 17, Memorial Parade, Bike Rodeo, etc.

Thank you to everyone who took popcorn in order to help us sell it.
