Membership changes from Council
Scoutmaster received an email from council and below are the high points.
The National BSA membership fee will increase to $33 for all registered youth and adult leaders beginning December 1, 2017. At this time, the Troop pays the fee for it's leaders, but the youth membership fees are charged to each scout each year.
Additionally, effective September 1, 2017, Youth Protection Training is required for all leaders at the time of registration. Registrations will not be processed without a YPT Certificate of Completion. If you are a leader or would like to be, please log in to my.scouting.org and verify if your youth protection is current.
An important change for Leaders attending Summer Camp is also being made. Effective for the 2018 BSA summer camp season, any adult accompanying a Boy Scout troop to a residence camp or other Scouting activity lasting 72 hours or more must be registered as a leader, including completion of a CBC (Criminal Background Check), and YPT, even if they are the parent of a youth on the trip.
Attached is the document from BSA, outlining the above changes.

Advancement Changes/Improvements
Our advancement Chair, Wanda has been working with our updated and now online version of TroopMaster. This will now give scouts an opportunity to compare what is recorded online to what is in their Scout handbook. Instructions have been sent to the email of record, most likely the parent email.
Please check your emails for usernames and passwords to access TroopMaster 2.0, click on the link in the email to log into the account, save your password on your device and have your Scout verify the information by taking stock of their accounts. Scouts need to focus Personal Information, Merit Badges earned and yet to be presented and Merit Badges earned but not entered or presented at all, Merit Badges earned and presented, as well as rank advancement documentation. Scouts should prepare notes and bring their handbook for verification to provide to the Advancement Chair to view at the meeting on September 6, so that we can start off the year with accurate reporting and record keeping. Each scout needs to make sure that their name is included on their list of concerns that they bring to the meeting. Wanda does not plan to bring handbooks home as we have done in the past, because she will be providing opportunities at the meeting to complete our advancement needs. This may take a few meetings to get caught up so please be patient.
If you do not have an email address on file, or have not already received the generated invitation from TroopMaster, please comment below or email troop1.gaylord@gmail.com.
If you do not have access to a computer there is a free app available at the app store for your phone or tablet and can be found by simply searching “TroopMaster” select Michigan and the Unit Number 1. Once you receive your username and password Scouts can log in and see exactly what they would see from a computer.
If you do not have a smart phone or tablet or access to a computer, two computers will be available at the meeting and you will be given priority to investigate records, but please expect to show up a little early or stay a little late for this first meeting to facilitate record keeping.
Scouts! Make sure that your Scout handbook is completely updated with a record of Campouts, Service Time and miles hiked! At the first meeting, make sure that you ask an adult leader, who was at the campout, service time or hike to sign your handbook.
Looking forward to seeing you all at our first meeting, on September 6, 7pm at Bagley Hall.
