Pre-"summer camp" Campout!

Hello Troop 1!  We are having a pre-"summer camp" campout on July 8! It's going to be a fun time at Dr. Hauswirth's home to practice camp setup and cooking for summer camp! It's a good time to get last minute Board of Reviews done also. We will meet at Bagley on Wed July 5 at 6pm to finalize the menu. Dr. Hauswirth lives near Elmira see directions below. Please attend the meeting so that we know who is coming. Scouts and parents are welcome. Remember to get your physicals and have completed health forms in time for summer camp. Scoutmaster needs three copies.

Campout arrival and departure time will be decided at meeting.

Dr Hauswirth's house is on 5175 Parmater Rd near Elmira

From Gaylord go west on 32 toward Elmira. Then make a sharp right on Hallock Rd. Parmater Rd is about a mile down turn left. The driveway is the second driveway on the left with the house number on the utility pole.

Patrol campout at Air Show

PATROL CAMPOUT OPPORTUNITY!
As a troop we did not have enough adults committed to camp at the air show at our last meeting.  However, several parents have since decided to camp on Saturday.  They are planning a PATROL CAMPOUT (not a troop campout). Mr Yodzrevicis, Mr. Branigan, and Dr. Hauswirth will be chaperoning. They plan to do the chicken dinner at $5.00 per scout, and they will purchase other meals as needed. Please reply to me if your scout would like to attend ASAP.  They will need to plan for grocery shopping.

Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 29th

We will be marching in the Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 29th. I borrowed the wording from the Cub Scout email, so we should look as sharp as they do!

Scouts will need to be dressed for the weather, wear long sleeves under your Class A uniforms. All uniforms must be tucked in and there will be a uniform inspection before we begin marching. Wear either jeans/long pants or shorts, but something with a belt. No sport shorts or sport pants please. We want our scouts to look sharp for this parade.

We are meeting at the Subway/Phat Pita parking lot and we need all scouts there at 9:30 AM.

Mr. James Lake has agreed to be in charge of the parade for the Boy Scouts this year. Scoutmaster will most likely be there also, either marching or taking pictures or both. I am going to try to order a wreath for us to present this year.

Forestry merit badge Saturday

Don't forget this Saturday! Merit badge opportunity right in your back yard at the Otsego County Demonstration Gardens! May 20, 9-3 pm. Need to arrive by noon to have enough time to complete the merit badge. Chris Anderson will be the merit badge counselor, you can contact him for preparation or pre requisites at ca122574@sbcglobal.net.  The program will have multiple stations. The program starts at 9am with the groups listening to information on the history of forestry in Michigan. The stations are done at your own pace. So you can show up at whatever time and start but be there by noon because if you don't start by then you probably won't get done in time.wear your Class A uniform.

Upcoming events

Hi everyone,

Saturday, April 22 is Andrew Leemon’s Eagle project.  Please come and help Andrew finish the last requirements to achieving Eagle Scout!  See attached flyer.

Sunday, April 23 There will be a committee meeting on Sunday.  We need to plan upcoming events for May and June.  All our welcome and encouraged to attend. 6pm for scouts in leadership positions and 7pm for leaders and parents.

Wednesday is the Dessert Court of Honor at our regular scout meeting.  Parents and family are invited to honor the scouts receiving awards for advancement.   Bring a snack or dessert to share. The meeting begins at 7pm.

Attention Troop 1 aspiring adult leaders!
Next weekend, April 28-30, President Ford FSC is offering Scoutmaster Complete training at Camp Greilick near Traverse City. This is a great opportunity to complete both the Scoutmaster Position-Specific "indoor" training and the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills, the two training sessions required for Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Junior Assistant Scoutmasters. This course will provide you with the knowledge every Scout needs in order to reach the First Class Rank, so it's great training for whatever role you may take on in Troop 1. Plus, it's a lot of fun being Boy Scouts for the weekend! Sign-up officially ends April 24. Don't delay!
Please strongly consider attending. Troop 1 is always in need of trained leaders so we can ensure we have two-deep leadership at our functions, and training like this is not offered very often this close to home. All the details about the course and signing up are here: https://scoutingevent.com/272-SMcompleteGrielick, or call James Lake at 906-250-3182.
Troop 1 Assistant Scoutmaster James Lake will be an instructor at this training, so don't miss the fun!
