Jordan River Pathway Hike Itinerary & Reminder

Saturday, June 3, 2006

Scouts shopping for their patrol will be a Glen's early enough to have purchase their supplies and be ready to leave at 8:30 AM.

All other Scouts needing a ride to Deadman's Hill trail head need to be at Glen's parking lot with all gear and ready to leave at 8:30 AM.

Day pack with water and lunch for the hike. Regular overnight gear should be in a separate pack.

Permission slips will be available for anyone who forgot to turn theirs in at the Wednesday night meeting.

Depart Glen's at 8:30 AM, arrive at Deadman's Hill at 9:00 AM.

Overnight gear (sleeping, eating and extra clothing items) will be loaded into the Troop 1 trailer and driven to the camp site.

Day packs will be used by all Scouts on the hike. You must have at least two quarts of water, rain gear and a sack lunch. Good, broken in shoes / boots and sun screen are highly recommended. Bug spray, a hat and trail mix are good ideas too.

The Saturday 9 mile hike to Piney Bridge Campground will take approximately 6 hours to complete. There will be a lunch break at a predetermined rally point.

Scouts will haul all personal gear and patrol gear from the Troop 1 trailer to the camp site and set up camp.

Camp will break and all gear will be returned to the Troop 1 trailer by 9:00 AM on Sunday.

Scouts completing the next 11 miles of the trail will return to Deadman's Hill at approximately 4:00 PM on Sunday.

Fresh well water is available at the camp site.

May 17th Meeting Overview

This evening there were more Board of Reviews done, as this is the last chance before Court of Honor to gain rank and earn Merit Badges.

Planning was done for the Jordan Valley Hike. Menus were completed. Saturday June 3rd we will hike in on a nine-mile trail, then Sunday complete the rest of the eleven miles. Packs will be light but much water needs to be carried.

Physicals for Summer Camp that are less than three years old need to be gone over and signed by parents. If you do not have a physical or yours is more than three years old then you will need to get in touch with Mrs. Salem for a form and then have another physical done and turned in to Mrs. Salem. To get a hold of Mrs. Salem you can call (989) 370-5461 or email at vanillarae@yahoo.com.

Scout Master Notes
Leading By Example - Whether you are aware of it or not you are leading someone and should always be aware of your actions. When you are a leader you are a mentor and that calls for stepping up and doing things that others may not do. Also you are a role model and just by wearing your uniform properly and being clean you are showing others just how important being a scout is to you.

Scout B Class Uniforms - If your order was not turned in for your free Class B Tee Shirt and the size please do that immediately to Mrs. Savory. Any other shirts wanting to be ordered need to be done also. Tee- shirts are $9.00, Polo shirts are $15.00 and Hooded Sweatshirts are $24.00. For 2XL add $1.00 and for 3XL add $2.00.

Special Welcome to all the new Scouts that have joined, we are very glad to have you. If you ever have questions please do not hesitate to get with someone and ask. We are a Troop here for one and all.

Donald’s Review of Boy’s Life May 2006

I read the Underwater Trail it’s about Troop 323 going for a 25-mile hike through Arizona Clear Creek Canyon. They had to walk over huge boulders and monstrous ice-cold pools of water. The part they didn’t like was having to go through the freezing water and then just keep walking. Some of the water was ankle deep and others 20 feet deep. The hardest part of the trip was The White Box. It only took five minutes to get through but you couldn’t stop working.

Make sure to read your Boy’s Life magazine for this full article.
