New Eagle Scout In Troop 1

From Mark Ewing - Scenic Trails Council

New Eagle Scout in Scenic Trails:William S. – Troop 1 – Gaylord – February 7, 2007.

Will did his Eagle Project for Hallock Cemetery in Elmira Township. He found the grave markers using metal detectors, uncovered them, sloped the ground around them and planted grass. He also built a fence at the corners of the drive to re-define the driveway.

Lock-In Adult Sign Up

Calling all Troop parents & adult leaders! The Annual Sportsplex Lock-In will be Saturday, March 3, from 9 PM to 6 AM Sunday. This is the most bodacious event Troop 1 sponsors & we need lots of adult help ! Besides, what could be more fun than staying up all night with a couple hundred adolescent boys? Skating, swimming, bowling, card games, video games, food & fun!

We need help in the following areas: Registration, manning the Office (3 shifts) Shopping for door prizes, manning the Skate office (3 shifts), Bowling alley supervision, serving the Midnight Pizza snack and just general help throughout the night. You don't have to be there all night (but, who wouldn't want to?) There will be a sign up sheet at the Troop meetings on the 14th & 21st. You can also contact Mr. Marsh to volunteer. Remember - the early birds get their choice of assignments! Please call Mr. Marsh with any questions and mark your calendar!

Adirondack and Polar Bear Outing

Seventeen scouts and five adult leaders took part in the winter over night at Camp Greilick this weekend. The low temperature recorded at camp was 0 degrees.

Trevor A., Doug T., and Kevin N. completed a Polar Bear outing and will receive Scenic Trails Polar Bear Patches at an upcoming meeting. Mr. Adams and Mr. Coale also completed Polar Bear camping requirements.

Fourteen scouts and three adults spent the night in three Adirondack shelters.

A few of the activities for the outing were a 1.25 mile hike with gear to the Adirondack camp site, sledding, shelter building practice, winter fire starting pratice and cooking over several different heat sources.

Thanks to Mr. Adams for the pictures from the outing.
