Might need tables or chairs for Court of Honor Sunday

Tables or chairs? I think we might need a few additional folding tables and chairs for Sunday. We have 4 tables in troop trailer and I'm bringing two card tables and one folding table and 4 folding chairs. So if you can easily fit a table or folding chairs in your car when you come to the Court of Honor please do. Thanks. Mrs. B.

Halloween party, planned by ASPL Ethan

Halloween party information! I know I just send this out in the list of upcoming activities, but I think it's important enough to send twice because this scout needs your help!

Thank you to ASPL Ethan for planning the Halloween Party on Oct 30 and the Hauswirth's home.  Ethan did a great job making plans. Ethan needs some volunteer help from parents to make it fun. Parents, be creative and provide a Halloween activity and treats for the trick or treat. Please contact Ethan  989-350-5271 to make arrangements.  Parents, he would like you to make a fun activity and bring treats so that the scouts can "Trunk or Treat" from one activity to the next.

Position of Responsibility Absentee Form and Heads up for Wednesday

Enclosed is a copy of the form that I created for this week's elections.  Because our troop is growing larger, I thought it best to explore a better way to do elections.  I will be following the recommendations in the Scoutmasters Manual that I was given.

The Scoutmaster’s manual says this:  “How Are Leaders Selected?
Senior Patrol Leader: The youth leader with the most responsibility in a troop is the senior patrol leader. He is elected by all members of the troop.
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader:With the approval of the Scoutmaster, the assistant senior patrol leader is appointed by the senior patrol leader.
Patrol Leaders: One patrol leader is elected by the members of each patrol.
Other Troop Positions (Quartermaster, scribe, Order of the Arrow troop representative, historian, librarian, etc.)
the senior patrol leader selects the Scout who will hold each position.
Scoutmaster’s Handbook – Chapter 3 “The Boy Led Troop” 2010 Printing”

If your scout is already a Den Chief, that is his position of responsibility until April when the next election is.
If your scout is elected a Patrol leader on Wednesday, that will be his position of responsibility.
Senior Patrol Leader is elected by the scouts in April, ASPL's are appointed by the SPL in April.  Elections will be in held in March but will not take effect until April Court of Honor.

Please see attached form.  I will have forms to pass out at the meeting.  Senior Patrol Leader's decision is final.

Scout Elections

Attached is the absentee ballot for the scout elections.  The directions on are it.  This is a different way of voting than you are used to.  It is taken directly from the Scoutmaster's manual, version 2010.

We will be passing this out to those who attend the meeting tomorrow.  If your scout cannot attend tomorrow's meeting, please get the completed form to me asap.  Thanks.

No Committee Meeting Sunday - Positions of Responsibility Elections Wednesday.

Hello Everyone,

I am planning on doing elections a bit differently this time.
For Troop 1 in the past, elections are always a very long evening. Absent scouts sometimes get forgotten for a position, and sometimes scouts who need a position to rank up miss out as well.  Scouts that are of the rank Scout, Tenderfoot or Second Class do not need a position of responsibility to rank up, but scouts in First Class, Star and Life need Position of Responsibility to rank up. Our troop is getting very large and I thought I would investigate a better way to do elections.

I did some research about scout elections.  It’s always best to seek the BSA way to do things rather than simply doing what we always did.

The Scoutmaster’s manual says this:

“How Are Leaders Selected?

Senior Patrol Leader:
The youth leader with the most responsibility in a troop is the senior patrol leader. He is elected by all members of the troop.

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader:
With the approval of the Scoutmaster, the assistant senior patrol leader is appointed by the senior patrol leader.

Patrol Leaders:
One patrol leader is elected by the members of each patrol.

I thought I might try the elections this way this time, and maybe next.  I will draft a form for kids to put their choice 1,2,3 of what positions they want, and list what positions they’ve had in the past.  It will also be an absentee form for those who will miss elections on Wednesday due to sports, etc.

I will create the form this weekend and put it on the internet and email by Sunday night.

If anyone has any real concerns feel free to contact me.
Scoutmaster Mrs. B

Whitefish Point trip CANCELLED

Unfortunately we will have to cancel the Whitefish Point trip on Octo 14-16. The idea sounds great, but most of the troop was already committed to other obligations. We will try again at another time. Thank you to Kathleen Arndt for making this available.

Whitefish Point camping trip on October 14-16

Who is interested in attending the Whitefish Point camping trip on October 14-16? This great opportunity was organized by Leader Kathy Arndt with plans that she and her husband would attend.  Something has come up and they may not be able to attend.

Nic and Kim Monte are still interested, and last I heard the Mr & Mrs. Phillipy were interested.  Scoutmaster and SPL will not be attending.

What adults/scouts are interested in attending?  We need to make a final decision on if we have enough chaperones/drivers and campers available to go.

Please reply right away.    troop1.gaylord@gmail.com

New rank requirements January 2017

Wow! Tonight we had a very busy meeting, jam packed with merit badge completions, the new Salesmanship merit badge and rank advancement. A lot of information! One more reminder, for those of you working on rank advancements. As of January 2017, you must use the new rank requirements. You may want to print them and put them in your book. If you are in the middle of a rank right now, I would recommend that you try to complete it before January. And that may mean completing a certain number of merit badges.

Wednesday's meeting agenda. Be prepared!

I meant to post this reminder earlier. Tomorrow nights meeting is the merit badge wrap up. Bring as many partials as you have with your worksheet with requirements that need to be approved and signed off. You may have a chance to meet with a merit badge counselor. We will also begin the Salesmanship merit badge. This merit badge might help you with the current popcorn sales and the upcoming wreath sales.
Additionally, if you've completed your parent contract for the Cyberchip please bring that to the meeting tomorrow. We will also being letting a few groups each meeting night do the skit that goes along with the Cyberchip. See you tomorrow's meeting.
