Busy meeting tonight! Don't miss it

Tonight's meeting is going to be a good one, don't miss it! Miss Kathy will be presenting the First Aid merit badge to those who need it (both this week and next week), elections, summer camp commitments need to be made, and they have one more week to get in merit badge completions and Board of Reviews. Scoutmaster conferences need to happen TONIGHT so that Board of Reviews can be done next week. Busy meeting, don't miss it! Even if you have the First Aid merit badge, everyone needs a refresher on First Aid, it is that important! See you there.

Northern Trails Recognition Dinner and Nomination forms due

Northern Trails Recognition Dinner is coming up on April 14 in Petoskey at the Middle School Cafeteria. The dinner is $5 a person or $10 a family. Bring a dish to pass. Arrive at 6pm to visit with other scouters and I think it starts about 6:30. Below is a nomination form if you would like to nominate someone for an award. i apologize for this late notice, I was wrapped up with the lock-in. The deadline is yesterday/ASAP/now! He'll take them if you can get to it as soon as possible. I will pass out forms tonight at the meeting, and I can take completed forms to send in if you want me to. See the photos below of the people that received awards last year. It's a great thing to recognize people in the troop for their efforts! Take the time to nominate someone! Again, sorry for the last minute notice.

Thank you Troop 1 Volunteers for putting on a successful lock-in!

We had another great lock-in yesterday! I think I'm finally feeling human again after staying up all night.

I want to thank everyone from Troop 1 who volunteered at our lock-in last night. This event could not be as successful and fun for all without your help and never ending patience. As I'm revisiting the evening, I remember many acts of kindness and helpfulness that I saw from each of you to scouts or leaders from other troops or to help me personally. Thank you for supporting Troop 1's legacy in the Northern Trails Districts. Just think of all the other Troop 1 and Venture Crew volunteers who came before you and who would be so proud of the tradition that we have continued together! Thanks again!

Tonight is the 20th Annual Sportsplex Lock-in!

Tonight is the 20th Annual Sportsplex Lock-in! I'm looking forward to it, and I hope you are too! We have 36 troops planning on attending. Troop 1 Scouts and Leaders have fun tonight and remember that we are the hosts. As you enjoy your evening, keep in mind the Scout Law and be friendly, welcoming and courteous to all of our guests!

Scoutmaster will arrive at 6pm to unload all the supplies for the night and begin setup. The lockin registration begins at 8:30 but we generally start getting guests around 7:30 (I don't know why, but we do!)

Please be there in time for the shift that you registered for, be early to get instructions if needed. We have a photobooth tonight from 9:00 pm-midnight, so get your picture taken and take home a photo strip or two!

Volunteers, if this is your first lockin be prepared to be a kid and have some fun too! Bring your skates or your swimsuit (if you dare to swim with all those scouts.) Enjoy your evening.

Troop 1 Parents! Please sign up to help at lock-in

Troop 1 Parents!  Please sign up to help at lock-in this Saturday.  It's really important for the future of the troop for our current parents to learn about this lock-in  and how it runs.  This is a 20 year event that Troop 1 proudly hosts for the other troops all over Michigan.  As scouts age out, so do their parents and we always need new volunteers.  If you haven't volunteered before, we need you!  Please take a look at the spreadsheet and sign up for a shift.  The available shifts are marked in yellow. If you cannot access or save the spreadsheet, reply to this email with what shift you would like and I can sign you up. Thanks for supporting scouting and our troop!

Parents sign up to volunteer at Troop 1 largest event this Saturday!

Comng up this Saturday is our 20th Annual Sportsplex Lockin! We need all parents of Troop 1 to sign up to volunteer for our biggest event of the year. We will host 400-500 scouts and leaders for the 20th Annual Sportsplex Lock-in! It's a great evening of fun and food. Scouts come from all over Northern Michigan to enjoy the facilities at the Sportsplex. We need you for all night, or part of the night to help us to be great hosts to our guests. Please plan on helping on this all nighter event. Go to this link below and put your name on the list. Or message here if you are having difficulty with the spreadsheet.
The lock-in is March 19 and is an all-nighter.  We need help beginning about 7pm until 6am the next morning.  If you can't help during the night, you could come and help with clean up bright and early at about 4am so that the tired parents can leave if they choose to.

We need parents from every scout to help at this event! Plan on it!

Wednesday Scout meeting at the Hauswirth Home.

Don't forget that tomorrow's scout meeting will be held at the same home we had the Halloween party, Mr. Hauswirth's home. They plan to build birdhouses. Scoutmaster will not be attending. If there are enough leaders available, there will be a Board of Review for the eligible scout if he attends.

Scouts, remember to be working on completing ranks and merit badges before March 30 if you want to be awarded them in April. Rank advancement usually takes 2 meetings, one meeting for the scoutmaster conference, and then the advancement papers are printed for the following meeting. So if you are close to rank advancement then work on ASAP.

American Cultures Merit Badge opportunity March 14

Leader Mr. Lake would like to be a merit badge counselor for American Cultures merit badge. Scouts who earn the badge must choose three cultural, racial, ethnic or national backgrounds, and do activities regarding two of them. Boyne City is having its annual Irish Heritage Week starting March 13. One of the activities is "Learn to Speak Irish for St. Patrick's Day" at the Boyne District Library, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 14. Any scout who wishes to earn the American Cultures merit badge is welcome to attend. Mr. Lake can bring an additional 3 other scouts with him. If there is more interest than that, he would need another driver to attend. Mr. Lake will NOT be at next weeks bird house meeting, so you will have to contact scoutmaster if you want to attend.

Check out the requirements for the merit badge at the link below. Email Scoutmaster to get your scouts name on the list.

April Court of Honor 4/20/2016

A look ahead to the April Court of Honor on Wednesday 4/20/2016 at 7:00 pm.  A Court of Honor is a ceremony where the scouts are awarded with their rank advancement and merit and religious badges that have been earned since the last court of honor.

The reason that I'm reminding you early is that if you want a rank advancement or merit badge awarded on April 20, you MUST have turned in the paperwork by March 30. There is a significant amount of work for our Advancement Chair to do to put all this together and he needs time to get the paperwork completed and the badges ordered.

So scouts: Be Prepared, Plan Ahead and complete merit badges or ranks by March 30 that you want to be awarded in April.
