Alpenfest Week and Summer Camp update

Don't forget our Alpenfest duties this week!  Sign up with the Volunteer Center to work at the Dime Toss this week, please email vc@otsegounitedway.org, or call the Volunteer Center, (989)-705-8584 to let us know if you’re interested.

Also, we hope to see you participate in the Alpenfest Parade on Saturday! The theme is Alpenfest 51, Filled with Family Fun and our troop's theme will be hiking.  Dress in your uniform with a backpack (fill it with something light like a pillow just enough to make it appear packed without being heavy)  Bring a walking stick and a water bottle. Wear a hat to keep the sun off and wear sunscreen.  Let's show everyone how we can be prepared for a hike! (make sure your pack is as light as possible) Be at the dog park area after 10:15 am. Scout Leader Tabitha will be in charge of the parade.

Summer camp is around the corner! Please be at Bagley hall this Sunday, July 19 no later then 8:00 am (7:45 is better!) We plan to pack up the trailer and leave as soon as we've all arrived and paperwork is checked. Bring 2 copies of your physical form, and pack appropriately. Do not forget your water shoes. Below is a suggested summer camp list that came from the Cole Canoe Base Leaders Guide (I edited it some).

The Dime toss is 3 hour shifts If that is too long for your scout just tell them what they can work. Wear your scout uniform and make sure that you get your book signed by an adult so you get credit for the volunteer time.

Opportunities to Earn Merit Badges outside of the Troop

Here are some other opportunities to earn merit badges...You might be able to incorporate these merit badges into your summer family vacation trips!  My scout earned his Environmental Science merit badge at Cranbrook Institute in Bloomfield Hills, and his Scouting Heritage merit badge in Texas on a family vacation.  With a little research you can incorporate merit badges into family trips and associate a memory with the merit badge!
