Otsego County Bike Rodeo, come for the fun, or to earn service hours

The Gaylord Kiwanis Club along with the Otsego Memorial Hospital, City of Gaylord Police, and Fire Departments and the Otsego County Ambulance EMS will be holding a bicycle rodeo on the grounds of the Otsego County Airport.  This event will be held Saturday, June 1, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Bicycles will be registered by the Gaylord City Police or the Otsego County Sheriff's Department.  Registrants will also be asked to sign a waiver and release form.  The bikes will be checked for safety.

Free helmets will be provided courtesy of the Otsego Memorial Hospital.  And a drawing will be held for two 20" bikes courtesy of Wal-Mart of Gaylord, also two 20" bikes courtesy of Meijer of Gaylord.

The participants will also ride courses to test their skills with their bicycles and their recognition of safety rules.  In addition to the bike rodeo there will be the opportunity to visit the airport facility and see airplanes up close, fire engine and ambulance.  This rodeo will take place rain or shine.
Snack and water will be provided while supplies last.

Come to this exciting event with your bicycle, or if you'd like to earn service hours and support our sponsor the Gaylord Kiwanis Club, then wear your class A uniform and be prepared to volunteer.  Lunch will be provided to volunteers.

Memorial Day Parade Lineup

Boy Scouts!  Don't forget to participate in the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27.  Line up at the VFW hall at 9:00 a.m.  Make sure to have your Class A uniform on.  Wear your boy scout pants, and if you don't have official scout pants or short then wear solid color pants or shorts so we look presentable.

Parade participation counts as service time, so make sure to record those hours in your scout handbook and have your Troop leader or SPL sign it off at the next meeting.

Service Time! Sign Up to work the Alpenfest Dime Toss booth with the Kiwanis July 16-20, 2013

The Kiwanis need your help!  Every year the Boy Scouts help out our sponsor the Kiwanis at The Alpenfest Dime Toss booth.  Alpenfest is July 16-20th.  We need scouts to sign up to work the booth.  Pick up dimes, put out new drinking glasses and don't forget to wear your uniform!  Record the time worked in your boy scout book under service hours and make sure that you get an adult scout leader to sign it at the booth, or soon after at the meeting.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to earn service hours and to show our Sponsor, the Kiwanis, how much you appreciate their support!

Wings over Gaylord Air Show, June 15 & 16th

Troop 1 will be parking cars and enjoying the air show at the Gaylord Regional Airport, called Wings Over Gaylord, on June 15 and 16. (Father's Day Weekend.)

We camp at the air show and assist with some of their activities and, in return, get to see the exhibits free. Drop off will be at the airport at the main gate and we will camp the same place as last year at the base of the tower. You should expect to participate in a project at the airport on Saturday and possibly for a short time Sunday morning—don’t know just yet the exact details. Please let Scoutmaster Ken Arndt know if you are coming so that we can plan accordingly. Wear your Class A boy scout shirt, and bring your Class B shirt.
Needed for the air show: Sleeping bag and camping gear for an overnight stay.

See this link for information on the air show: http://www.wingsovergaylord.org/

Mower Safety Wednesday!

The contracts have been approved for another season of cleanup and lawn mowing for the cemeteries at Hayes Township, Holy Reedeemer and St Mary's. Moving and weed wacking at the cemeteries is a great way to put money in your scout account.  Many hands make light work, and we want every scout to help mow the cemeteries.

Scouts and parents please come to Wednesday's meeting to learn mower safety and to learn about how to earn some money at the cemeteries this year.  We will need to have clean up at each of the cemeteries before Memorial day, so it's coming up soon!

Also, please give some thought to the merit badges that you want to earn at camp, and be ready to information Mrs. Bushong of your merit badge choices so that she can register them online.

Summer Camp deadline is approaching! Have all information ready for the scout meeting Wednesday!

Folks, it's time to get the camp registration forms filled out and fees paid!  You must bring your scouts filled out camp form, money for the balance of camp, and merit badge requests on Wednesday to our meeting.  The scouts must be registered by Friday 10th, which means I want the information/ money no later than Thursday, May 9th.  But Wednesday at the meeting would be best!

The committee approved a $100 campership for each scout, that means that you owe $185 for your scout to attend camp this year.  If they have money in their scout account from grass cutting or fundraising that can be applied to camp.

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PARENT AND SCOUT TO:

1. Find out how much money you have in your account to apply it to camp, or pay the difference by Thursday.
2. Fill out the scout camp form and give to Julia. Summer Camp Form
3. Select the merit badges that you want, print your prerequisites (and do them) and give form to Julia.

Warning! We are short of a driver for the Spring Camporee this Weekend!

Warning!  We are still short one driver to transport scout to the Spring Camporee tonight at 5:30!  We need one licensed driver (parent preferably) to drive 3-4 kids to Harbor Springs.  You can then return.  You do not need to be the driver for the ride back.  Please call Ken Arndt (Scoutmaster) ASAP on his cell  619-0619.  (989-732-3307 is Ken's office)

If we do not get a driver, then 3-4 scouts will not be able to go.  Please step up and help out!    Even if your scout isn't going to the camporee, consider making a contribution to the troop and drive other scouts there.

Gather tonight at Bagley hall for the camporee at 5:30.

When you bring your scout tonight, DO NOT LEAVE until the rides are finalized.

Thank you for your contribution to scouting.
