Spring Camporee 2007

Sponsored by Charlevoix Troop 11
At The Charlevoix Rod and Gun Club May 4, 5 and 6.

Many exciting things are planned for this year’s Camporee! There will be things for the older Scouts as well as things for the younger Scouts and Webelos.

It is important for the the older Scouts to think about the hiking opportunities available this year since hiking activities will require pre-registration, and specific gear. Older Scouts are being informed early so they can think about and prepare for the adventure activities!

Base camp activities: For any Scouts.
Dish washing station training
• Compass training and a 1 mile hike with a map and compass.
• 5 Mile Hike—if we have enough interested Scouts with lugs on their shoes!
• Fire Building ‘Firem’n Chit’ station – hands on experience!
Totin Chip station — participants must leave with all fingers please.
• Knots and Rope Use station—advanced un-tying if necessary.
• Basic First Aid station — strategically located near the Totin Chip station!
• Flag Display and Folding station
• Fun Cooking and Camp Gadgets!
Geo caching
• Ultimate Frisbee games
• 1 hour Service Project
• And more…
Many of the stations will complete some of the Boy Scout and Webelos requirements!

For the older scouts:
Backpacking Merit Badge—This is a 5 mile hike and overnight camp with full backpack gear. Participants will have their own activities and camp fun. A Great Opportunity. See your scout book for what type of equipment is necessary. Scouts will need to preregister for this. There will be special gear and preparation to do this activity. This activity will preclude the scout from the base stations since they will be away. It will fulfill the backpacking requirements with the exception of a couple longer hikes they need to do on their own.

Wilderness Survival Merit Badge—An overnight trip where scouts build their own shelter and cook their own food . Scouts will need to pre-register for this. There will be special gear
and preparation to do this activity.

Please see Mrs. Savory for more details.

SEA BASE 2008

We have done it!!!

We have booked another Seabase tour for 2008. The adults who will be going will be Carol Page and Craig Oakley. Mr. Oakley has been to Seabase in the past as the adult crew advisor so he has lots of experience in where to go and what sights to see while down there. The cost will be approximately $1,200.00. Pricing is $650.00 for Seabase plus airfare, side trips, spending money, and food during travel.

The crew will be doing the Out Island Aventure beginning on June 19th and ending on June 25th. (Dates may vary by 1 day either way due to travel time). Youth who are interested must be 14 by September 1, 2008 and 1st class. For more information you can check out the Seabase Web Site at: www.bsaseabase.org

If you are interested please contact Mrs. Savory immediately. The crew will consist of no more than 6 youth. Reservations will be on a first come…first served basis. A waiting list will be taken after the first 6 are identified.

Within 3 weeks we will be asked to provide $100.00 per youth going. In 3 weeks time if we do not have a full crew I will open up the available slots to youth from other units. Please be aware that these slots will go fast so if you are interested you need to let me know right away.

Thanks – Mrs. Savory

NORTHERN TRAILS PINEWOOD DERBY

The Northern Trails District is looking for a few choice scouts to help with the District Pinewood Derby on Saturday, March 24th. Set-up will be at 9:00 AM with racing beginning around noon. All races should be done by 3:00 PM. If you are interested in helping out please contact Mrs. Savory. The races will be held at the Boyne Falls School. Transportation will need to be provided to the event. It is possible I may be able to take a few scouts back to Gaylord after the event. This is an excellent opportunity for those who need service time for rank advancement.

Please call me if you are interested – Mrs. Savory
